Entering Croatia

Once your travel documents are in order you are now ready to travel to the beautiful country of Croatia. There are lots of ways for tourists to enter Croatia, let’s start with the easiest. Taking the plane is by far the easiest if you are coming from another country. The capital city of Zagreb would be the main point of entry for international flights. Many flights from major European cities and North American cities as well use Zagreb’s international airport. During the peak tourist season, the number of flights coming in Croatia is usually increased. A typical flight coming from London would take 2 hours and 30 minutes to arrive in Zagreb while that from New York would take approximately 10 hours and 30 minutes.

Taking the ferry is another way to enter Croatia. Italy and Croatia is linked by an international ferry service. The Italian ports of Venice, Trieste, Ancona, Bari and Pescana are connected to the Croatian ports of Zadar, Korkula, Split, Pula and Dubrovnik. Ferry services between these ports are daily and once aboard you can relax and enjoy the scenery until you reach your destination.

Buses and trains connect Croatia to nearby European cities. The bus network connects Croatia to Austria, Germany, France, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries as well. The train network on the other hand connects all major Croatian towns excluding Dubrovnik. Be aware that travel by train could be very slow and is not available south of Split.

If you want to enter Croatia by car then make sure you have an insurance green card with you as well as your driver’s license and car registration.
