Travel Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a city located in the southern part of Croatia. George Bernard Shaw once remarked that “Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik”. Indeed this seems to be true today since the city attracts many visitors with its blue waters and golden sunsets.

The old town of Dubrovnik is full of sights to behold. The entrance to the city walls is through the Pile Gate. The Franciscan Monastery which was built during the 14th century lies next to the city wall entrance. It is in this monastery where the oldest pharmacy in Europe is located. The favorite hangout area of the locals is the Orlando Column. Many churches, museums, monasteries, fortresses and palaces could be seen in this old town.

Just outside the old town are numerous rock shelves which are great for sunbathing and swimming. There are also coves located in this area that is perfect for water activities. For a truly unique experience, head out to nearby Lokrum Island which has a nude beach.

When in Dubrovnik, don’t miss out on the Dubrovnik Summer Festival held between July to August. It is during this time that the city becomes a cultural mecca and many parties are held.

Getting to Dubrovnik is best done by plane. The airport in this city handles flights daily coming from London and Zagreb. Buses could also be used in getting to Dubrovnik but it usually takes 12 hours from Zagreb.
